Shinobe Shrine is one of three shrines forming the Shizuoka Sengen Shrine complex, and is considered the oldest of the three. Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his youth nearby and later sponsored lavish rebuilding of the entire complex.
Ancient name of Okuninushi, meaning 'Great One of the Land'. See okuninushi.
