Kotoshironushi Shrine in Shizuoka City enshrines Kotoshironushi no Mikoto, the deity of oracles, commerce, and fishing who is widely worshipped throughout Japan as Ebisu — the jovial god of good fortune. The shrine is situated near the precincts of Shizuoka Sengen Shrine in the city's Aoi Ward and reflects the widespread medieval veneration of Kotoshironushi by fishing and merchant communities along the Tokaido road. Its founding date is not preserved in surviving records, though devotion to Kotoshironushi in Suruga Province is attested through his association with Mishima Taisha, one of the most important shrines of the Izu-Suruga region.
