Itakiso Shrine in Wakayama City enshrines Isotakeru-no-Mikoto (also called Itakeru-no-Mikoto), the deity of trees and forestry who, according to tradition, planted heavenly tree seeds across Japan before descending to Kii Province — earning him the title "meritorious deity of the land."
