Shijonawate Shrine enshrines Kusunoki Masatsura, the son of Kusunoki Masashige, who fought and died in the Battle of Shijonawate (1348) in service to the Southern Court. Like his father, Masatsura is celebrated as the embodiment of samurai loyalty.
