Sarutahiko Jinja in Ise, Mie Prefecture, enshrines Sarutahiko Okami, the earthly deity who guided the heavenly messenger Ninigi-no-Mikoto upon his descent (Tenson Korin). As the original Michihiraki ("path-opening") deity, Sarutahiko is venerated throughout Japan as a guide for safe travel, career advancement, and the achievement of goals. The Ujikonomi family has served as hereditary priests of this shrine for over 2,000 years, one of the longest unbroken priestly lineages in Japan.
