Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, is the official northern-approach gateway shrine for ascending Mount Fuji. Founded in the 7th century, it is listed in the Engishiki (927 CE) and served as the departure point for millions of Fuji pilgrims throughout history.
