Umenomiya Taisha in Kyoto was established by the Tachibana clan, one of the four great Nara-period aristocratic families, as their ancestral shrine. Enshrining Oto-Tachibana-hime and the sake-brewing deity Osahime, the shrine is particularly venerated for blessings connected to sake production and childbirth/child-raising. The shrine's plum garden (ume) is one of Kyoto's finest, with over 450 trees blooming in late winter — a living reference to the shrine's name.
